When searching the market for components for our Dobsonian telescopes we quickly found that there is a real lack of choice when it comes to focusers. There are of course a great many models, but these are almost all made in either China, Taiwan, or the US. In Europe we could only find models specifically designed for astro imaging.

For this reason we decided to design and make focusers ourselves. We opted for the classical Crayford design which is free from backlash and if precisely made, runs very smoothly.

For visual use we have opted to forego a microfocuser for extra-large focus wheels. Microfocusers use planetary gears which are easily damaged, introduce some backlash, and to make matters worse are typically paired with undersized focus wheels that eliminate a significant portion of the advantage for which a microfocuser was chosen in the first place. Lastly, a planetary gear that isn't sourced from China is a very expensive piece of kit.

For astro imaging motorized focusers are the gold standard, so we have developed ready-made couplings for a wide variety of motorfocusers such as ZWO EAF.
