Welcome to Nienna!
Astronomy is our passion, and we hope that you will join us in this fantastic hobby! Nienna was started with three main goals: to design and manufacture telescopes and astronomical accessories; to offer resources and help to amateur astronomers of any experience level; and to offer service and support for your existing equipment.Back i 2000, Nienna's founder Patrick Woitala built his first telescope. This Dobsonian telescope with an aperture of 350mm and with a truss tube became the prototype for a small series of telescopes sold to customers in Germany and Switzerland. Its at the time most revolutionary feature was its ultra low weight of only 24 kgs. (The prototype was even lighter at 21 kgs.) Furthermore, it was small enough to be easily transported in a tiny Smart Fortwo car. For comparison, typical Dobsonians of that aperture usually weigh between 35 and 73 kgs. And thanks to their excellent mirrors from Orion Optics in the UK, the telescope matched their mechanical quality with a superb image quality.
Things got in motion and Patrick spent the next 20 years working for astronomy retailers, first for Teleskop-Service in Germany and then as manager for the entire astronomy business at Astro Sweden. In these rolls he had the opportunity to learn a great deal about the products available at the market, as well as which properties customers were looking for in those products.
There is no single best telescope perfectly suited for every use-case. Each telescope is a more or less carefully selected compromise between different properties, optimised for some applications whilst necessarily being worse at other applications. That is why good guidance, advice, and support for customers is so important. We want you to find the telescope and equipment that suits your particular needs perfectly. If we do not have what you need, we will happily point you towards those who have the best product for you. On this, you have our word!

Nienna's own products are manufactured fully in Europe - the vast majority is even manufactured in our very own mechanical workshop in Skara, Sweden. We build complete telescopes as well as accessories, but we are also very keen on making bespoke products for our customers. If you have an idea for a product you would like, we will help you to turn this idea into reality!
